When David asks me if we can do part of the shots at his High School in Cranbrook, I said yes without even thinking. Whether that school is beautiful or not is of secondary importance to the fact the he spent 5 years there! And honestly for a school in the famed countryside of Kent – the “Garden of England” – it was a very safe bet.
Back to school
I was certainly not mistaken in my assumption. Cranbrook is a small town with the school grounds weaved into its fabric. Coming out of the school hall you can immediately see the village chapel behind a row of trees while heading to your science lab.
And the classical buildings are simple and straightforward in their classical languages complete with buttresses and quoins. They certainly fits the bill of showing the “Britishness” in the photos while keeping a high degree of meaning to David. Knowing that some of his High School friends are going to travel all the way to their wedding in Hong Kong, this is especially significant.
Royal Tunbridge Wells
When the weather improved we also spent a bit of time at the nearby bigger town of Royal Tunbridge Wells, which offered the best pseudo-wilderness to accompany the long afternoon shadows.
